Cultivating the intelligence of heart called for by Pope John Paul II and affirmed by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. is the fundamental aim of all the programs of study for St. John Vianney Theological Seminary. To this end, before each seminarian undertakes the study of pre-theology and theology academic programs, a spirituality year offers a catechesis: a program of practical courses directed to personal appropriation of the faith in the context of a faith community. This personal appropriation of the faith provides a basis for a disciplined study of truth offered in the academic programs of study. Hearts inclined to the Word made-flesh allow Him, who is the source of priestly formation, to more fruitfully reveal Himself in pre-theologate and theologate academic disciplines, as well as in the various degree programs that contain them.
Accordingly, St. John Vianney Theological Seminary offers three programs of study:
The pre-theology program of studies provides standard requirements for entry into the theology program of studies as well as options to pursue the Bachelor of Philosophy Degree (B. Phil.) and Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in philosophy. The Program of Studies in Theology offers the Sacred Theology Baccalaureate (S.T.B.) and the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree programs that provide courses in satisfaction of the academic subject requirements for priestly ordination.
